Mt Semeru 3D/2N

Mount Semeru is Java’s highest volcano with a peak of 3,676 m above sea level. This active volcano is also known as Mahameru, which means “The Great Mountain”. This name is derived from the Hindu-Buddhist mythical mountain of Meru or Sumeru, the abode of gods.
You need three days to climb Mount Semeru. You can choose whether you depart from Malang or Surabaya.
Day 1: Surabaya or Malang – Tumpang

Pick-up in Surabaya or Malang. You meet your guide and drive to Tumpang. This trip takes four hours from Surabaya and one hour from Malang.
Check-in at a guesthouse and the rest of the day is free leisure.

Day 2: Tumpang – Ranu Pane – Ranu Kumbolo – Kalimati

Rise and shine early for today’s trek. After breakfast, you check out and depart one a 1,5-hour drive to Ranu Pane by private 4WD.
From Ranu Pane, you start climbing to Ranu Kumbolo; this takes approximately four to five hours. Ranu Kumbolo is located in a valley with a magnificent lake covering 12 hectares. This is our rest area at an altitude of 2,400 m ASL. You have lunch before continuing for three hours to Kalimati.
Tonight you camp in Kalimati at 2,700 m ASL.

Day 3: Kalimati – Semuru summit – Ranu Kumbolo – Surabaya

Wake up at 1 am to climb the summit of Mount Semeru via Arcopodo (2,900 m ASL) and Cemoro Tunggal (3,200 m ASL). This trek is the heaviest part of the trip.
You reach the crater’s rim after a 4-hour hike, just in time for the sunrise.
After a while, you start your descend back to Kali Mati base camp at 2,700 m ASL. After breakfast, you hike to Ranu Kumbolo to rest and have lunch.
After lunch, you walk to Ranu Pane where a jeep is ready to take you to Tumpang. Upon arrival in Tumpang, you are transferred to Surabaya or Malang, where this tour ends.
